3rd edition European Symposium by NEREUS Regions: Space data for water & energy
2-3 October 2024, Toulouse/Occitanie
Co-organised by the Occitanie Region and the NEREUS European network of Regions, this year’s edition focused on the use of space applications for water and energy challenges. The European Symposium by NEREUS regions is an annual event aimed at enhancing interregional cooperation and networking amongst NEREUS regions and their partners across Europe.
The two-day event featured keynote speeches, panel discussions, and presentations of best practices in energy and water management, including in urban areas. Toulouse and the Occitanie region are a major hub for aerospace innovation, hosting key players, such as CNES, Thales Alenia Space, Airbus Defence and Space, and Aerospace Valley. With strong industry, services, and a dense network of top institutions and SMEs, the ecosystem offers ideal conditions. Public authorities with responsibilities in the water/energy sectors shared their needs and expectations while the space and regional cluster communities to propose use cases and success stories in water and energy.
Water and energy play critical roles in advancing the local Green Deal agenda, particularly for green and climate transitions. Climate change’s regional impacts affect agriculture, biodiversity, and economies across partner regions. As a result, local authorities face increasing challenges in managing territories and implementing policies, especially in water and energy management, prompting a search for innovative solutions.
